In January 2026 TikTok's US business was carved into a separate entity, TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC, 80.1% held by US and global investors (Oracle, Silver Lake and Abu Dhabi's MGX at about 15% each) with ByteDance retaining 19.9%. That restructuring covers the United States only. Canadian users are served by TikTok's global business, which remains ByteDance-controlled. So from Canada this is a Chinese-owned service — not US-owned, and not Canadian.
