Founded in Guelph in 1834 and revived by John Sleeman in 1988, but acquired outright by Sapporo Breweries (Japan) in 2006 for $400M — the first major Japanese acquisition of a Canadian brewery. Still brewed in Guelph and marketed on its Canadian heritage, but wholly owned by Sapporo. Not US-owned, not Canadian-owned. Confirmed via Globe and Mail and CBC reporting on the 2006 takeover.
